In 2025, Bee Squared partnered with a South Australian Council to review its plant and fleet operations and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, performance and long-term value.
The Council manages a $10 million of plant and fleet across multiple depots, supporting essential local services and community amenities. While there was a perception that the fleet was ageing and costly to maintain, inconsistent data and limited visibility made it difficult to confirm or address these concerns. Bee Squared was engaged to provide independent analysis and clear, practical recommendations for improvement.
Our Approach
Bee Squared combined data analysis with stakeholder engagement to build future state options for the Council, including the design of an alternative replacement regime. The proposed option comprised of availability and usage-based replacement with measurable outcomes.
Steps for Improvement
- Reviewed systems, processes and lifecycle replacement practices
- Analysed utilisation and cost data to identify performance gaps
- Developed an availability and usage-based replacement methodology to align asset replacement with demand
- Created a trial model to test lifecycle extensions for high-value plant items
Delivering Measurable Results
The analysis showed that adopting an availability and usage-based replacement trial on a select number of items could save more than $300,000 per year, or around $3 million over Council’s Long-Term Financial Plan.
This approach delivers greater financial sustainability and provides a transparent, evidence-based framework for future investment decisions.
